Principles and Philosophies
Principle 1
If you join Sober Indian Riders (SIR), you are therefore,
in for the duration for the people, “Indian Helping
Indian and ALL NATIONS”. Sober Indian Riders
membership is a matter of Commitment.
Principle 2
Sober Indian Riders is for those people who want to see
change and are willing to commit to Indigenous causes! You
are a Warrior first.
Principle 3
Sober Indian Riders is drug and alcohol free. Sober Indian
Riders supports zero tolerance for abusers of people,
drugs, and alcohol.
Principle 4
Sober Indian Riders does stand for protecting your
indigenous rights. SIR, will be involved at every degree
they can. And will partake to support any cause as long as
they’re invited. Prior to making any commitment, the
SIR leadership must receive a written letter.
Principle 5
Sober Indian Riders is first, a spiritual movement, a
religious re-birth of dignity and pride in a people.
Principle 6
Sober Indian Riders philosophy is based on the individual
native nations spiritual and cultural norms of the people.
The philosophy of Sober Indian Riders is that you work with
the people not above the people, stay “humble”.
We are proactive when invited to make a stand on any issue
and accordingly are willing to make sacrifices and take
risks. Sober Indian Riders may participate in activities
even when it is unpopular at the time. Understand that
Indian wars did not end in 1890, and Sober Indian Riders is
ready to battle and risk their lives for their people. It
is also Sober Indian Riders purpose to educate the youth to
secure the future of our people and our relationship to the
land.
Principle 7
Sober Indian Riders' goal is to promote Indian Unity and
Spirituality through Indian helping Indian programs and
projects.
Principle 8
Sober Indian Riders is a way of life. If you can put
principles before personalities, then you are ready for
Sober Indian Riders.
Principle 9
You are always a diplomat representing Sober Indian Riders,
conduct yourself accordingly.
Principle 10
Sober Indian Riders is the political catalyst for Indian
sovereignty. Sober Indian Riders is not republican or
democrat, nor liberal or conservative, we are Indian with a
unique spiritual culture that conflicts with the dominant
American political culture and spiritual beliefs.
Principle 11
When dealing with the media caution needs to be exercised.
SIR, needs to have clarification officially before the
media.
Principle12
A chain-of-command needs to be established so that
meetings, events, as such can be conducted accordingly.
Therefore;
We are the Sober Indian Riders. We walk
into the future in the footsteps of our ancestors,
following the principles of our traditional spiritually,
sovereignty, self-determination, sobriety, and mutual
respect. Hence, we are firmly committed to the time-honored
indigenous political perspective of the inalienable and
inherent right of the people to decide the nature of their
destiny. We hereby declare and reaffirm that we are, in the
manner of our ancestors who have come before us, the Sober
Indian Riders. Remember Sober Indian Riders was born first
in the Western Hemisphere. Accordingly Sober Indian Riders
members agree to advance the cause of indigenous
sovereignty and self-determination within its own context
and regional conditions. Let there be no misunderstanding
that Sober Indian Riders will not accept any divisiveness
and disruption brought about by members or any similar
entity. Sober Indian Riders will take whatever measures are
necessary to maintain the integrity and uphold the
principles of the Sober Indian Riders and the struggle it
represents. All those who consider themselves allies,
supporters or advocates of indigenous rights will respect
our position, and respond accordingly.
